Jack, do you have an 80/81 header panel on the car? As I recall, 78/79 didn't have an ornament other than on the grille.
I always liked 69/72 Grand Prix handles....but they're getting hard to find and spendy when you do. Saw them on a 69 Camaro years ago, pretty unique
If you're going to keep it, you don't want to paint over the lacquer that's on it now...better to strip it and start fresh. Over time, the OE paint WILL fail
The difference in wheelwell moldings from camino/wagon to coupe/sedan are related to the length/shape at the rear lower portion below the body line. Conquista quarter moldings would work, after shortening the portion ahead of the wheel and cutting the length behind to fit. Hardest part is going...
Re: Vehicles that might have come with the aluminum core sup
Of the eight that I have personally seen/bought, all but 2 came from Buick century/regals of 78/79. The other 2 were from Grand Prixs..one 79, and one 80 (was not original to the car as it had different color overspray on it)...
Re: Brown wheel with Tan interior? Went With A Tan Z28 Wheel
The wire uses a longer version of the black sleeve. I use a small pocket screwdriver to push the retainer down, rotate counterclockwise a little, and the wire/sleeve pull out. Drop in the spring, insert the contact into the sleeve...
You know, I never really LOOKED at it before...the rear whellwell is HORRIBLE! I'd guess that they reduced it so the "trim" would not be too close. It isn't helping the looks of the car, though. Makes it look very rear-heavy, IMO.
There's a fella over on gbodyforum that owns a wagon the builder...
I've seen 'em done with camino glass, they just don't look right, IMO. Makes the roofline look humpy, probably due to the roof being lower than the wagon roof at the front.
Why are you trying to make this so hard?
Or do you mean B pillars? That would be more fab work because the back of the wagon doors are different than the back of coupe doors to accomodate the rear door hinges.
Lexan windows are not legal for street use...and I wouldn't use fibreglass doors on...
FWIW, from my observation of hundreds of G bodies in the yards, the least likely to crack is the Pontiac dash, followed by the Buick, then Olds, and the Chevrolet versions are almost guaranteed to crack.
I have to agree with t5...it's a drag car, and the qtr glass is clearly lexan,so I would imagine that the door glass is as well. Roofline to me says wagon a pillars.
This is the one I spoke of above....the only one I've seen that looked right.
Coupe A pillars are not as tall as the wagon roof, and are laid back more.
The way to do it, IMO, is use coupe doors, and construct window frames from the front and rear door frames to fill the hole. trying to use the coupe roofrail weatherstrips would take even more fabrication, and the glass...
To do it well will require a donor coupe shell. IMO, you'll need to fabricate a door window frame, since the ones I've seen done with a coupe windshield/cowl and "hardtop" doors have funky looking rooflines. The biggest crime is piecing together quarter windows. there's a pretty well-knowm...
