Reproduction body parts & trim clips

Not specifically with the ones for our cars, but I have had the (mis)fortune of dealing with them on customer cars (collision shop). If you just need something there, they're not bad, but they are not as "clean" as the OEM pieces, and typically the bracketry is considerably lighter than the OE...

ARE THERE ANY HOOD OPTIONS OUT THERE EXCEPT COWL HOODS?

I wasn't impressed with the VFN I put on an '02 Camaro for a customer last month. Light, yes, well built, not so much...IMO.

ARE THERE ANY HOOD OPTIONS OUT THERE EXCEPT COWL HOODS?

Not the best reputation in the business, by far

    Butyl tape thickness for windows?

The trim is really only cosmetic when using urethane, with the exception of a T style molding, which often is bedded in the urethane. For the aluminum moldings, you can install pretty much anytime...you'll just want to make sure you have the glass set to the right depth.

    wagon side window trim

Well, all I can really add is that some Ford products also used similar strips. However, the use of these strips started sometime in the late 70s, as none of my earlier cars had them. My 64-72 Chevelles didn't, 70 Z/28 RS didn't, but my 78 Z/28 did. Mustang IIs used them as well. Not sure what...

    Butyl tape thickness for windows?

I guess I liken the butyl/urethane debate to the laquer/urethane argument. Both have been used, both cover/color the car, one is more durable and better technology. Just like everything else, prep is key. Use either without the proper primer, and failure is a matter of when, not if...

    wagon side window trim

Couple choices... Earlier wagons used aluminum moldings rather than the vinyl ones. The down side is that you would have to either add the weld studs for the clips or use self sealing screws to hold the clips. Use a generic "T" molding cut to fit, a local glass installer should be able to get...

    Butyl tape thickness for windows?

Don't use butyl for backglass, it really should be urethane set.

    Rear bumper replacement.

AFAIK, nobody makes an aftermarket "reproduction" bumper. I work in a body shop, and believe me when I say you're 100 times better off buying a rechrome froma reputable plater or having yours straightened and replated than buying a "new" bumper. The repros/aftermarket stuff is almost always...

    different tail light bezels?

Don't know how to make this any simpler...if you have 78 taillamps, the bezels are NOT from any other year. The 78 has an angled side on it, all others are squared off. And again, the "chrome" wears off over time. It's just a coating, and solvents will remove it quickly, so it's not like the...

    different tail light bezels?

78 is a 1 year only lamp, and the bezels are integral to the assembly. They were just flash plated, and most have worn off over the years. Careful taping and a good quality aluminum paint will be better, but is not going to look like chrome.

    1979 buick century wagon

Lower body lines are different. They fall into 2 types....Buick/Oldsmobile and Chevrolet/Pontiac

What did U do to your G-body today??

Loaded up the family and went for a little daytrip to the mountains. Mountains in Oklahoma? Turns out the Wichitas are a lot like eastern Colorado. Was a BEAUTIFUL day...lunch at an historic hotel in a little resort town, and some nice family time. If your car isn't a dedicated drag car, get out...

    Clear coating aluminum radiator support

Old time bodyman I know that worked at an Olds dealer when these were new cars told me the aluminum was just whatever they could get, and is hard to weld due to the unknown content. Kinda like the red iron in steel buildings, i guess...sort of a free-for-all on what goes into the smelter. I...

    Clear coating aluminum radiator support

Clear anodizing...same as GM used on the aluminum trim.

    to strip or not

Acrylic lacquer...and it needs to come off if you're going to do it right/it's a keeper

    Show quality bumper

Rechroming yours is the best bet...and don't shop the job by price. Production chromers tend to do mediocre work at best, you'll want a restoration shop that is accustomed to working on parts where quality matters.

    Wheel/Tire Suspension Update - 3/20/10

Re: Interior Update - 3/20/10 Dang! That looks good! Me, I'd drive it like that, but I do like the 17/18 wheels, too. Wish any of my stuff looked that good  (note to self: kick your own butt for selling the coupe)

ON his regal and for a regal are two different things...do they make a cowl hood for regals? Might be a Malibu hood.... :?:

    83 bonneville wagon

Unless you're going to change the header and turn it into a Malibu, you'll need a Pontiac fender. Crash book says any G body Pontiac fender 81-86 is the same...81 Lemans, 82/86 Bonneville. Hoods from the 82/86 Bonneville are the same through those years. lemans had different part number. At...
