Sounds like what you need is the proper nut for the wheel (probably regular acorns), and a set of nuts for the front and rear.

The one I looked at was from a company in MI, and from what I understood a standard pilot could be used with the LS1 input shaft.

I had a feeling that was the case. Personally I'd just use a T56 with an LS1 input shaft, standard 26-spline clutch and an adapter plate, then you could use the stock G-Body linkage.

What's so special? I would think a standard flywheel would be ok... is this for use with the T56 bellhousing?

I guess that would be another thing to look at is budget. The Vortecs are a good design, and if everything is basically new you could probably get a decent penny for the stock Vortecs, and upgrade to a set of Bowtie Vortecs, they have a 185cc intake compared to the stock 170cc which is a little...

Being a 383 I think the hot cam will be almost a perfect match. I (and a few others) are running a Comp XE268H cam with Vortecs on a 350, and it does quite well for fun driving. You didn't say what stall your converter is, but you likely won't need much, maybe 2000 with the 268. You would...

I'm partial to analog gauges myself. If I get an A/F gauge I might get a digital gauge though.

Hmmm.... do you have a dust shield around the converter?

That sounds too fast to be an exhaust leak. Have you tried unbolting the torque converter and eliminating that from the equation? Like fhc said there's a chance it could be the flexplate, though I've never heard a cracked one before... it's a free check shrug.gif
