    87 monte with serp alt

The brown wire from the SI alternator plug is all you should need, tie that into the plug for the CS alternator from the Firebird. If that doesn't work, a 25w 10 ohm resistor on an ignition-switched 12v source will also work.

    305 Dying

You don't have to use a roller of course ;) If the 350 has 10k on a rebuild it may be a better deal... if the 400 hasn't ever had the valve covers off you may very well be going through the entire machining process, including possibly getting better heads for it, etc., I'm just thinking out loud.

    305 Dying

Have you pulled the intake? All TBI engines I've seen have been flat tappet. You can still put a reasonably sized cam in a factory roller block... the LT4 hot cam is .492" and can be used with a stock roller setup. Being that I've been going through this process myself, know that: A...

    Drilling/tapping for screw-in studs...

Well the good news is if there is interference, it's not a major chore to remove the studs and replace them with different ones.

    Drilling/tapping for screw-in studs...

Just measured the actual difference in height from the casting to the bottom of the threads and they're almost 3/16 higher... do the nuts actually get that close to the bottom of the threads?

    Drilling/tapping for screw-in studs...

Well I double checked the new against the old studs, they're taller overall but don't hit the valve covers, and the bottom of the threads is a little higher... it's just something that we'll find out when everything goes together I suppose. I went and measured the pressed vs screw in studs and...

    Interchangeability of stock gauges?

The circuits from the clusters with round gauges and warning lights to the right (not in the cluster itself) will work for a tach, it's where I got mine from.

    cluster to 81 malibu..

El Camino/Malibu and Monte Carlo all interchange, the wiring just has to be correct (same across all 3 models).

    Drilling/tapping for screw-in studs...

Well let's hope not :P All the charts I've read show a U-size for a 7/16-14. My dad's been a diemaker at GM the past 20 years, thanks for lookin' out though 8) I chose studs that are close to the same height/threaded length as the stockers.

    Drilling/tapping for screw-in studs...

I'd picked up a U-size drill the other day, and it's dang near a perfect fit into the stud opening... \:D/ I have a steel block ~1" tall, clamping the opposite side in place with the remaining rocker stud, and using it as a guide for the tap. The opening is just barely large enough for the...

    Drilling/tapping for screw-in studs...

The pressed-in length of the studs is longer than the threaded portion of the screw-in studs.

    Drilling/tapping for screw-in studs...

So the studs I have are a base size of 7/16-14. The size stated for a 7/16-14 tap is size U (.3680). I have a set of drills with a lot of missing pieces, but have a 23/64 (.3594), which is the size just below U (-.0086). I would've already had my answer but someone's borrowing my truck so I'm...

    looking for replacement speedometer HELP!!

Round speedometers are the same for Monte/Malibu/El Camino, they just look different through the years and some Montes have 115mph speedos. I'm assuming it looks something like this?

Got to love BOLT-IN street/strip bucket seats!

You could have them recovered I'd imagine. It probably won't be cheap, but it would look kind of cool if everything matched.

Which intake: Performer or Torker II ?

A Q-jet would really fit better, smaller primaries from what I understand, but overall CFM rating is higher. You could also run a vacuum secondary 650 if you want to stick with a squarebore.

    Computer Size??

There is a bulkhead below the HVAC box where the factory wiring passes through. You may be able to go that route, but the hole may have to be opened up to fit all the wiring for an LS engine through.

    Interchangeability of stock gauges?

You should be able to swap he tach in no problem, probably just need to add the power/coil wires.

Which intake: Performer or Torker II ?

I vote dual plane and stick with the 1406. I have a 1405 (same, w/o electric choke), Vortecs/GMPP Vortec intake and Comp XE268 which is very close to that Lunati cam, it runs great on the street, and pulls all the way to 5500, haven't passed that. If you're planning on using lockup, the 600cfm...
