You should be able to just tighten the bolts up. If the rods are loose I believe you can replace the bushings. The bushings on the shifter end are rubber, grommet-like, so I'm not sure what you could do there.
If the bolts holding the 1-2 and 3-4 levers cannot be tightened, perhaps the bolts are too long.
If the shifter body is moving, it must not be fastened tightly to the bracket. If those bolts cannot be tightened, perhaps those bolts are also too long.
ok guys, my problem its the shifter it moves side to side, and the bracket who attach to the trans its very tie,the big issue its the shifter,i forgot to tell you that one day i did put some shims in between ,was amazing how tie was the shifter, but after couple of turns(racing) the shifter again was loose.
the shims that i put was half of the shim itself, i mean noy complety round.
any sugestion?
The ITM shifter is not a bad shifter, but it has a part that can get sloppy. The handle is a slip-fit into a plastic bucket. The plastic bucket can wear out and the handle can move quite a lot before it will move the linkage. Is the problem with the plastic bucket? or is the problem inside the shifter body?
A friend with a 1980 Camaro described his shifter handle as stirring a large bowl of soup because it would move around so much. He solve the problem by cutting down the center of the bucket, drilling 2 holes in the base of the handle and in the remaining 1/2 of the bucket, and bolting on the handle. The result looks similar to the Hurst F body shifter.
you got it man,the shifter goes inside to a plastic thing, the shifter moves inside the plastic,(its a small bolt with nut wich cross the plastic and hold the shifter right?),anyway thats its my problem, your buddie got some pics from whats he done?,or maybe try to explainme in plain english,
please and thanks
Here is a picture of the shifter after the plastic bucket was removed and one side of the remaining metal box was cut off:
