A WCT5 would be fine behind a stock-ish base Goodwrench motor like you have as long as you don't run slicks and DO use your clutch. I have the same Goodwrench motor in front of a WCT5 and so do many others in the 300-350hp range. As long as you follow the two rules above, it will last and you don't have to drive like a Grandma either
As mentioned, a T56 is of course much stronger/better, but I took the first thing to come up as finding a trans locally wasn't easy. Budget will also play a role as a T56 swap will cost you a fair amount more, especially if you have a 2pc rear main block like the Goodwrench (flywheel is $400+). The speedo adapter ~$250 and is another additional expense. A T56 is typically in the $1000 range, whereas a WCT5 is $500 or less, so overall expect to spend an additional $1000 or more for a T56 swap if you have a 2pc rear main block. I have since purchased a T56 and all the neccessary parts (except the driveshaft), however I'm not going to bother upgrading until the motor warrants it. If you plan on motor upgrades soon, may as well do it right the first time if you can get your hands on a T56.
