It may very well be a 1978 G-Body only problem. I own a '78 & that's most likely why I remember the issue.

I think the spindle diameter is smaller on whatever early years are affected. I also own an '87 G-Body that the P/O installed drop spindles on & 1" lower springs in the rear. It wears 17" wheels & just looks right. In my opinion, the 17" wheel is the best looking large diameter wheel for the G-Body wheel openings. The taller wheels look too big & begin to look like a donk.

Good luck & please let me know what you find out.

S-10 drop spindles will work fine on all G Bodies. There are 2 differences between the 78 and all other years (with respect to the front end). 78 has the same inner front wheel bearing bore at 1.25 inches, but is different at .750 bore for the outer, versus the 1979 and up .844 inches. The od of the bearing is different too: 1.7810 for the 78, and 1979 and up has 1.9690. Which means the front brake rotors are also different. Lastly, the 78 steering column shaft is splined, and the 79 and up columns are the double d style. Everything else is just cosmetically different. Fyi, the S-10 front upper control arms are also the same for all G bodies.

I prefer the 17" wheel also , atleast on most cars, some of the bigger cars/trucks look nice with 20" when its lowered and everything is tucked under. I think I'll go for the belltech p/n 2100 and 2" detroit speed rear springs.(does anyother springs seem better than others???

This is what mine sits like with Detroit Speed 2" drop springs front and rear with 17's. Front B Body brake swap. Guess there's still a slight rake. IMO the rears are too soft for me. Might be intrested in selling the rears if your set on 2" drop D.S's.

Here is what 17" wheels, Bell-Tech drop spindles & 1" lowering springs in the rear look like on a Regal.
