Don't try to stip a car with an "orbital" palm sander. It is designed for "finish" work and has a small orbit and a finer cut. Get a DA to strip paint with. It has a larger orbit and a more aggresive cut. It will strip paint twice as fast as an orbital palm sander. Palm sanders have different orbits designed for different tasks. The ones with the real small orbits are for sanding clear coat etc. If you really want to get that stuff off quick with sandpaper get set up to use an electric or air powered polisher with a thick backing pad to help with the heat buildup. You won't believe how aggressive 80 grit on a slow speed polisher is. Knock 90 percent of it off with the polisher being careful not to warp the panels by keeping it moving and go back over it with the DA and 80 grit. It'll have plenty of "tooth" for filler or primer. Just make sure you let the primer set long enough to shrink back before you block and get plenty of it on there or those 80 grit scratches will come back thru the paint job, expecially if you use a urethane primer. Make sure you use a good epoxy on the bare metal to seal it up, then your filler primer over that. You can buy a cheap DA for about fifteen or twenty bucks that'll make it thru one car but it will use more air than a good tool. You'll need a compressor that'll make around 15 cfm to keep up with it.
