I am installing 383 sbc with 230*cam .480" lift and 108* separation with Canfield 197 heads, airgap intake, 1 5/8" headers with 2 1/2 duals. Comp engine analyzer says peak torque is 460lb/ft at 4000rpm; but this program is notoriously optimistic + it's not taking into account i'll be running full accessories: a/c p/s alt and water pump with serpentine belt (88-95 truck setup)

Currently running a TH350 with RV shift kit and 3.42 gear. Plans are for mostly street driving and an occaisonal trip to the track.

What stall speed would you recommend for this combo and usage?
What brand converter do you recommend?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Whatever the program says subtract about 10% for acc. I've heard alot like the hughes stall's plus we have a new sponsor here so you can get a discount through pete from hughes. I would go atleast 3500.

In my opinion 3500 is too loose. I would go with 2800 but no more than 3000. I just sold to a member a Hughes Pro Street/Strip gm30hd convertor. I was very very happy with it. I had to sell it because of a nitrous kit I'll be adding and need the antiballoon plate. My cam is lunati :
Dur @ .050 lift 243/251
