Pfffffff..... probably. Couldn't tell you the measurement or where to measure it from, though.

I'd contact Auburn and ask them. It's only a difference in the location of the ring gear mounting flange.

I was told it was removed from an 1986 olds with g80 rpo code. I count 26 teeth on the side gears. It does have some stamped numbers on the carrier. No ring gear or pinion. It's probably a 7.5 ring gear and I'd have to lean towards it being a 2 series.

Here is a measurement of my 2 series Auburn 7.5" carrier, should be the same measurement for the 8.5".....
I run a "thick" ring gear...........Series 3 will take a "thin" or "regular" ring gear...........
