Need to watch the Dynamic compression ratio with 10.5 Static & Iron heads, don't want detonation.

You can make any motor detonate,, thing to worry about is when your pushing the limit of pump everyday gas and thats around 11.8..

download comps camquest. it is free. it only suggests comp cams, but you can find and figure similar grinds with it. the xe274h gives you lots of torque to 6000rpm, decent idle with a narrow overlap mean decent vacuum. .490 lift with stock rockers. probably could go a little more with those sportsman heads, but 2500 stall would have to go.
IMO

One thing to watch for is the lobe center, I think 110 -112 is better for for street cars that want vacuum accessories...

I have a Comp 290/292 .550 lift w/1.6's and its on a 112 lobe center in my 406 sbc and it's too mild for the 11.5:1 comp on the street and has detonation problems on 91 but squeaks by on 93. Oh and that's with the chevy fastburn heads and 0 deck with flat tops. But the power brakes and other access. run great.

Cam these engines more like a big block the long arm likes duration...

80% street, 20% strip. It'll have 9.5:1 CR, 200CC Sportsman IIs w/ 72cc chambers, 2500 converter, 3.42 gear, 28" tall rear tires, TH350, Performer RPM intake, 1 5/8 headers, 2 1/2" exhaust. Some vacuum for accessories / brakes would be nice... I was thinking .520 lift, 236 @ .050, 108 CL. Need some ideas. There are too many choices out there nowdays. Thanks

if you want to keep it more street go with http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CCA-12-242-2/ it works good with you CR and heads

here is the cam I am looking at for my 408 build.

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-1784/

ran it through dynosim5 and it seems to have great power. better than comp280 magnum. 112 lca should be able to run power brakes....
