It came from where? NOW what....

I came out to find transmission fluid had run down the driveway this afternoon, only discovered it after I'd backed out. Part of the driveway is on a slant and the garage currently has stuff in it, so the yoke is submerged in fluid... which leads to my question... where the heck could it be coming from? It doesn't appear that the seal itself is leaking. The only wet spot is at the u-joint cap on the yoke, nothing else appeared to be wet.

It could be that the weap hole or the plug itself is leaking a little, I would clean it and check it once clean. If it is the plug or the weap hole that is leaking and the slip to the output shaft is tight I would cover the hole area in 5min epoxy, that should dtop the leak

But why would it be leaking in the first place? shrug.gif Simply covering it with epoxy pretty much masks the problem, I'd like to figure out what's actually causing the leak and what I'd need to do to properly fix it. I parked it over some cardboard last night and this past evening there wasn't a very large spot on it, it's just a very slow leak & it bothers me because it's just one more leak to deal with (lots of miles on the motor & it leaks a little as well :x).

that driveshaft is not in the trans far enough

Odd that you would say that... everything is 100% stock, and it never leaked until recently.

Doobe ir could be that the splines have worn to a point that they are now allowing fluid to wick past them and are able to get to the weap plug, if you have it in park are you able to feel if there is play between the slip yoke and the output shaft?

That's a good question. Since yesterday a squeak/squawk/noise has also started, I think/hope a u-joint is just going bad.

Just did u-joints, the one at the rear didn't have fluid movement, so I figure that was the source of the squeak. The yoke had a buildup of gunk/sludge back around the weep hole, I'm thinking that may be part of the reason I was getting a leak, guess we'll find out sooner or later. If it comes down to it I'll probably just replace the yoke, it looks like it's due, there's a groove around it at the tailshaft seal. I've discovered I have all sorts of leaks to take care of on this thing... I think there's a small pinion seal leak. When I got u-joints I also bought gear oil & a gasket to change the fluid (it's likely due), so I'll clean the underside of the center section & see if it gets wet again. I also have to do brake rotors & check out the rear brakes, but that'll likely be after a few paychecks. The engine has leaks from who knows where... looks like around the damper, and maybe the rear main seal. This is all somewhat annoying because it's been a long time since any of my vehicles have had leaks to this extent.

Oh yeah... my coolant is a dark color, it always has been. I don't know what's caused it, but it doesn't lose fluid, doesn't use/loose more oil than is typical. I want to have the system flushed, but at the same time I'm afraid to because it may break something loose that shouldn't be, or necessitate a repair on something else :roll:

So apparently a bad u-joint wasn't my only problem. Part of the noise I heard is still there, sounds like it's coming from the driver's side of the axle, I'm starting to wonder if it's a wheel bearing. Right now it's just when I'm coasting and almost at a stop (<25mph)... I hear a faint squeak, and a faint repetitive clunk, almost like a flat spot on one of the bearings.
