Got a pic? Those adjustables often have adjustments that aren't obvious or clearly documented, like flipping the throttle cable bracket slider around backwards for more reach. A full inch of difference tells me it's probably some "big change" kind of adjustment that will make the difference here.
I had to replace mine on my bbc (too short). Just went down to the local parts store they have one made by Mr gasket that worked like a charm. Its universal G.M. Just take your time installing it.
There is both V6 and V8 cables. I had run a stock V8 cable with my bbc that had a tall Brodix intake, 1 1/2" carb spacer and a dominator carb, V6 cable was too short. I had bought a new stock replacement cable from Advanced Auto I believe.
