I got a Vacuum Bleeder from Autozone and it took 10 minutes to bleed it. I then spent another 15 running fluid through the system but never could get all of the air out... it just kept coming. So I guess its technically not bled... but it works and there is quite a bit of pedal travel.
The pedal is the stifest thing since John Holmes. NOT what I expected.

Jeff, I haven't followed this thread, but I saw 30 some pages had been posted so I took a glance, starting from the last page(most recent). I don't know much about this conversion and this may have been addressed in one of the other 30 some pages that I didn't read, but from the photo of the slave you posted I have a question. Shouldn't the bleeder screw be on the top and the line be on the bottom? Just wondering. Lee

For the vacuum bleed I would think the bleeder should be on the bottom as I am drawing fluid from the bottle and then the air goes right up and out.
Clean fluid enters the bottom and travels up taking with it all of the air. 10-15" of vacuum can really move the fluid against gravity and then the air only helps its journey.
Who knows maybe it is backwards.

OK, I put the seat back in and tried the clutch out. Its manageable. I started the car and ran through the gears on the jack stands. No problem. Reverse was good too without hitting a forward gear. I tried to get my kids to depress the clutch while I watched underneath, none of them could do it.
I may have a little bit more travel now then with the mech linkage and the pedal throw is less. I will make myself like it.

Cool...nearly there.

You mentioned there was no play at the fork. Do you have any freeplay betwen the release bearing and the pressure plate? You need some or you will wipe out the bearing in short order.

Or were you referring to play between the fork and slave?

I have no play from bearing to pressure plate. No big deal to add a few thou to keep a $90 bearing from destruction.
Pedal is rock hard from the moment you put your foot on it. It engages right away... that vacuum pump was awesome. I am going to try it on my brakes next. Then I get to drive it and break in my new BFGs... I think a little burnout should get them road worthy.

My first impression.... I dont like it.

I took the car down the road and back. The clutch engages at the last half-inch of pedal travel. And it takes some serious leg to manipulate the clutch.
I added a little bit of slack for the throwout bearing. It seems like there is too much fork travel. I have a whole bunch.

This was supposed to make the car more enjoyable to drive. Far from it right now.

I took the car out for a more extensive drive. My leg HURT when I was finished. I am not weak.... its that bad. Something is binding.
I adjusted the clutch rod that goes into the fork and made it about a 1/2 inch shorter to get the clutch to release earlier. It made no difference.
Tomorrow I am going to call Mike Forte and talk to him about how this should feel and the possibility of getting another clutch fork but with the hole for the clutch rod moved out torwards the end of the fork.
Its entirely possible that I will tear the whole thing apart and send the bell to Mike Forte and let them adjust the mounting of the slave. Quick Time tried but there is just something not right.

I put the new BFG 275-60 15s on for the test ride. Poor tires didnt stand a chance. No smoke though... I never seem to get tire smoke. I dont get it.
