Spent the better part of today putting the transmission back in. Cleaned up the galling on the clutch fork- ground the metal down a little bit and smoothed everything out. Took a shim (.125) out of the throwout bearing to try a different angle for the fork to engage at. Pulled the z-bar out and took it apart and added some washers to the frame side to try and tighten things up. Pulled out the bronze pilot bearing and added a needle bearing. Everything cleaned up real nice and then I put it all back together.
NIGHT AND DAY difference on the pedal feel. While not quite as nice as the CF DF it is much better then it was. Smooth engagement and disengagement without the horrid feeling of metal rubbing against metal.
My need/want of a hydraulic setup has been drastically reduced and my driver satisfaction level has increased once again.

Took the car out today and ran through all of the gears. Clutch engagement is really late, Ill adjust that later. Pedal feels nice. transmission shifts very smooth. Shift dogs are all still very tight. All in all I am back to normal.
Sunday I am going to bang gears at the track. In theory I have all of the ingredients for an 11 sec run. I am going to beat the piss out of the TREMEC... I can hardly wait.

Tremec

Hey Jeff, my name is Dwight and I am currently building a pro touring 79 Malibu. It's a factory 4 speed car and I would like to put a Tremec in it's place. I would really appreciate your input on this. Could you give me a call whenever you get a free moment. I am doing a frame off restoration. I have already purchased my Airride Technologies air ride. I bought the front shockwave shocks with their tubular upper and lower control arms. Rear bags also and there front sway bar as well. I also bought a chassisworks fab 9 rear end with Strange axles and centersection. I also have a Procharged small block going together. This is going to be a really nice piece when I'm done. I want to run the Tremec 5 speed with this setup and it looks like you may be the resident expert. Look forward to hearing from you. Thanks. 859-743-1394.

i just got a set. haven't installed them yet but the quallity looks nice. they give you two teflon lined rods end and one non-lined one. they want the non-lined one to go near the pedal. that rod end is sloppy but i guess its cheaper for them and once the assembly is together the return spring would take out the sloppyness. the piece that engages the clutch fork is a rod end to aluminum tube to long set set screw. overall they look really nice. i'll let you know when they're in the car.

Back to the track for a TREMEC beat down

Alright... went the last 2 Sundays to the track.
FINALLY got into the 11s. Yesterday I ran a few in the 11s but not as fast as I would have liked. The transmission is feeling really nice again. The clutch is pretty tough. The shift dogs are broke in for sure.
On a bad note my hard drive cashed and I lost every picture I have taken for the last 5 years...to inlclude all of my documentation of this project. I feel like my house burned to the ground. I lost a lot of stuff. I am an idiot for not backing it up.

Couple vids of my runs. Watch the rear view mirror...cracks me up everytime.

You might be able to get some of your hard drive stuff back. Don't throw it out just yet.

Check here----> http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1139

If you Google "crashed hard drive data recovery" you can go from there. Does the hd spin at all? There are places the guarantee data recovery for about $300.00 bucks. Not cheap but it might be worth it.

The hard drive works fine. I accidentally deleted the partition.
For what its worth, I tried that program at : http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1139
... guess what? I lost everything again. I have never had this much trouble since I bought my first 486-DX33 back in 1993. I guess my brain has only a finite amount of capacity... as I learn more about my Bu I guess that knowledge is pushing my old computer learning out my earhole or something.
